Saturday 24th – Sunday 25th February from 10am – 4pm each day
Storth Village Hall, Milnthorpe, Cumbria, LA7 7PH
This 2 day course will be an exploration and celebration of watercolour pigment, fluidity and flow.
I am so pleased to be returning to my first love of watercolour. If you have been waiting for an opportunity to develop your own approach to loose watercolour painting with me then this course is for you. We will be literally diving headlong into colour and pigment, combining loose gestural washes with strong gestural expressive mark making – all in all these two days will be full of colour and enjoyment. Think transparency, granulation, optical mixing, glowing shapes, energetic marks, texture, dragged, dripped and poured colour…
This course is perfect for you if you are an adventurous beginner or more experienced but wishing to shake things up and try out some alternative approaches to working with watercolours.
Day 1 will be packed with guided exercises exploring the different techniques and options open to you. We will begin with experimental mark making laid out against expressive swathes of inviting textural colour fields. We will be working from a variety of verbal and visual starting points; from botanical subjects, supplied imagery and poems and from your own studies.
Day 2 will be an opportunity for you to develop your favourite approaches and techniques so far with a focus on recognising and developing strong fluid compositions. I will be sharing some of my my latest watercolour paintings with you alongside the exciting work of contemporary watercolour artists to hopefully inspire you and kickstart your own ideas.
I will then be on hand throughout the day to guide and inspire you as you work towards the developing your own contemporary watercolours.
I will supply a variety of drawing materials, drawing boards , cartridge paper and practice watercolour paper . You will need to supply your own paints, brushes, palettes, artists quality paper and of course your curiosity 🙂 A full list will be sent our 6 weeks before the course.
