Drawn to Watercolour Landscapes

Saturday 29th – Sunday 30th June  from 10am  – 4pm each day

Storth Village Hall,   Milnthorpe,   Cumbria,   LA7 7PH

This 2 day course will be an exploration and celebration of the beauty and transience of both the Cumbrian landscape and watercolour itself.

I am so pleased to be combining the theme of landscape with an exploration of watercolour and all things fluid… so think ink and water soluble drawing materials.

If you have been waiting for an opportunity to develop your own approach to loose semi abstract watercolour landscapes then this course is for you.

We will be literally diving headlong into the creation of strong multi sensory compositions, combining loose gestural washes with strong expressive mark making – all in all these two days will be full of fresh air, colour and enjoyment. Think transparency, granulation, optical mixing, glowing shapes, energetic marks, texture, dragged, dripped and poured colour…

We will split our time between working outside overlooking the Morecambe Bay Estuary near the workshop hall, and in the hall itself where you will have the opportunity to develop your studies on a larger scale.

This course is perfect for you if you are an adventurous beginner or more experienced but wishing to shake things up and try out some alternative approaches to working with watercolours and mixed media.

Day 1 will begin working on location. The morning will be packed with exercises exploring various approaches to making studies on location. We will then develop these back in the hall really pushing the potential of your ideas and the paint. You even have a wonderful view from the hall itself so you are never far away from inspiration.

Day 2  will be an opportunity for you to develop your favourite approaches and techniques so far with a focus on recognising and developing strong fluid compositions. I will be sharing some of my my latest watercolour paintings with you alongside the exciting work of contemporary watercolour landscape and abstract artists to hopefully inspire you and kick start your own ideas.

I will then be on hand throughout the day to guide and inspire you as you work towards the developing your own contemporary abstracted landscape pieces.

I will supply a variety of drawing materials, drawing boards , cartridge paper and practice watercolour paper . You will need to supply your own paints, brushes, palettes, artists quality paper and of course your curiosity 🙂  A full list will be sent out 6 weeks before the course.

One Comment on “Drawn to Watercolour Landscapes”

  1. Would you ever consider doing this as a virtual course? I live in the US but would be interested in seeing your watercolor techniques applied to the landscape format. Love your work!
