The Language of Colour
This day workshop is for those who would like to understand how batter to select and use colour in their work. A lot of positive reactions to my work are in direct response to my use of colour. My passion for colour is one of the reasons I love to paint and I could happily while away days simply mixing colours and enjoying the resulting alchemy. Although I work across a variety of mediums and subjects it is simply the use of colour that seems to give my work cohesion. So I thought it would be interesting for both me and you to actually spend some time considering the use of colour in painting. How can we harness the power of colour and make it our own? How can we make it sing, make it whisper, make it loud and even make it almost disappear?
From a study of paintings and artists past and present we can begin to unpack what makes the colour palette of a painting work.
Throughout the day we will be developing personal palettes which will emerge from our investigations and tutor led practices. Learning to play, experiment, react and respond are integral to understanding and implementing the inherent power of colour.
I will be providing all of the visual resources and some basic materials and you can choose to work with your own watercolour or acrylic paints. This day is about looking, appreciating, selecting and refining as you build up a personal library of colour combinations.
