Elemental Landscape @ Hare Hill Barn
Thursday 8th and Friday 9th June 10am – 4pm each day
Hare Hill Barn, Cartmel Fell, Grange-over-Sands LA11 6NZ
An exploratory mixed media drawing and painting course inspired by the Cumbrian estuary and surrounding landscape.
You will not fail to be impressed by the setting of Hare Hill Barn. The open light filled space of the the barn, with its full length picture window overlooking the fells and Morecambe Bay, will really encourage light, bright, fluid responses.
Over the course of the two days you will be guided, using a fluid water-based mixed media sensory approach, to build up a series of studies exploring the potential of the landscape and your place within it. Working both outside, immersed in the landscape, and back in the studio, you will be encouraged to respond, reflect and develop your own language of marks, shape, tone and colour. As a result you can expect to be going home with a stack of studies, one or two final paintings and the seeds for a whole series alongside!
The course is taught through structured exercises to start you off each day, short demos of specific processes, reference to the work of relevant artists, and lots of individual and group feedback as you work.
The demonstrations each day will illustrate my personal mixed media approach and techniques, as I encourage a playful and immersive response, where the subject and materials come together to tempt you with their potential. Using inks and watercolours along with dry media you too will be able to build up a wonderful tension between fluidity and flow and the fixed line, between the observed and the intuitive response, between what is seen and what is felt.
Expect a full on sensory immersion into the landscape, the materials and your dialogue between them. This course is suitable for all levels of painters looking to enjoy a guided, explorative experience alongside other creatives.
I will provide basic drawing materials, cartridge paper and drawing boards. More information will be provided upon enrolment.
