Big and Bold Watercolours @ Hare Hill Barn
Tuesday 1st November 2022 10 – 4pm
Hare Hill Barn, Cartmel Fell, Grange-over-Sands LA11 6NZ
You will not fail to be impressed by the setting of Hare Hill Barn. The open light filled space of the the barn, with its full length picture window overlooking the fells and Morecambe Bay, will really encourage bold, expressive and fluid responses.

Progressive exercises in colour and composition
Come and join me for a day surrounded with colour and light, fluidity and flow.
Do you dream of creating large scale watercolours full of luminous colour, texture, shape and line?
Then it is time to get really loose and spontaneous with watercolour and uncover its potential to make uplifting contemporary paintings.
There is no need to be scared of watercolour and in this workshop I will encourage you to enjoy the unexpected and make intuitive responses to the unfolding process. We are literally throwing the rules out and letting the pigment do its own thing, all the while balancing freedom and control under a watchful eye.
The aim of the day it to create a series of studies, from smaller exploratory pieces to expansive full sheets of flowing shape and colour. No more muddy results!
We will be working towards abstraction from a choice of starting points with demonstrations and structured exercises throughout the day.
My aim is to encourage a playful and immersive response where the subject and materials come together to tempt you with their potential. Using watercolours along with selected dry media you will build up a wonderful tension between fluidity and flow and the fixed line, between observed and intuitive responses, between what is seen, what is encouraged and what is felt.
This class is open to all levels and abilities, from the eager beginner, who doesn’t even know there are rules yet, to the experienced painter looking to loosen up and really enjoy exploiting watercolour’s potential.
Drinks and light refreshments will be available throughout the day but I do ask that you provide your own lunch.
To book your place please follow the booking procedure and opt to ‘pay locally’.
A full materials list will be supplied along with a request for the payment 6 weeks before the course date.
