This painting started off as a demo piece at last

This painting started off as a demo piece at last weekends workshop.
It’s on a very smooth gessoed panel where the paint ‘slip slides’ around. It took a while to develop a way of working with this surface but now I just love it.

Fancy a wander?
I thought I would share my process pieces so far as I develop a series of paintings for an upcoming show organised by @wallace_seymour for the @coles_gallery in Leeds. I love the fragility of the Chinese sumo ink paper studies and wanted to take this across to the bigger paintings. Hopefully this idea of collaging and printing with the translucent papers will convey the layering up of experiences on the day.
I was working alongside @i._c.h.r.i.s.t.i.e and I will be sharing some of our collaborative pieces soon. Exciting …

What an inspiration my workshop artists were this weekend. Here’s a selection of photos when I remembered to take some. There will have to be a sequel as they all have so much potential and curiosity.

Gonna need a bigger brush

I have been seduced by the Duddon Valley and, as I work in response to my location studies, the marks are definitely calling out to be more lyrical and calligraphic. I’m working with @wallace_seymour Duddon casein earth paints along with their acrylic paint and inks. I’m so loving where this riverside exploration is taking me.

These are actually samples for my acrylic workshop next weekend- I do like to plan the sessions out and then run through them first myself to get my timings right and create examples to share my creative process.
